Cooperation between MECOnet and National Parks of Montenegro reaffirmed

On 28th of July 2026, MECOnet and the Public Enterprise for National Parks of Montenegro reaffirmed their partnership under the ARCA project.

MECOnet and the Public Enterprise for National Parks of Montenegro have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming their cooperation within the ARCA project (IPA-ADRION00107), co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg IPA Adriatic Ionian Programme.

Under the renewed agreement, MECOnet will continue to deploy and maintain an IoT wireless sensor network (TreeTalker sensors) at a selected site within the National Parks of Montenegro, provide the use of a drone for data-collection purposes, and — where needed and subject to availability — install a mobile network for video-monitoring. Data collected through this infrastructure will feed into the ARCA platform’s AI algorithms and Decision Support System, supporting early detection and prevention of climate-related natural hazards such as wildfire, drought and windstorm across Montenegro’s protected natural areas.

The renewed MoU extends the two organisations’ commitment to maintaining this monitoring infrastructure and the resulting environmental data beyond the project’s duration, with cooperation continuing through 30 April 2032. The parties expressed their mutual satisfaction with the cooperation achieved so far, as well as optimism and eagerness to enter new stages of cooperation within this project and beyond it.

The agreement was signed by Prof. dr Radovan Stojanović, Authorized Representative of MECOnet, and Marinela Đuretić, Director of the Public Enterprise for National Parks of Montenegro.
